The wife of late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Mrs Hannah Awolowo, has just died at the old age of 99 years.
The Late matriarch whose full names are Hannah Idowu Dideolu Awolowo, was the the unofficial right hand person of the great Nigerian politician.
The chairperson of the African Newspapers of Nigeria, died 28 years after her husband, Obafemi Awolowo, who fondly described her as his jewel of inestimable value, passed on.
Mrs. Awolowo, who was 99 years old, achieved great fame and respect as a confidante of her late husband and custodian of his tremendous political and cultural legacy.
The matriarch of the Awolowo dynasty died in her sleep in her country home of Ikenne in Ogun state.
Her death was confirmed by one of her daughters, Dr. Tokumbo Awolowo.
Mrs. Awolowo’s grand daughter is the wife of Nigeria’s current Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osibanjo.
Mama recently celebrated her 99th Birthday in November last year.
