He is at once both a scourge of the LGBT community and the delight of homophobic. Zimbabwean leader, President Robert Mugabe has been in the news for his anti-Gay comments.
In Nigeria and indeed many other countries, he has popularized the phrase; Even Satan. The expression is from his latest comment on Gay marriage which was legalized last Friday by the American Supreme Court.
Here is a quick run down of his most controversial anti-gay marriage quotes.
*Even Satan wasn’t Gay, he chose to approach unclad Eve instead of unclad Adam.”
*Archbishop Tutu said it is nice to be gay, yet he has a wife, he should have begun by getting himself a man for a woman.
* When you are a bishop and cannot interpret the Bible, you should resign and give it to those who can. We will not compromise our tradition and tolerate homosexuality. (referring to Desmond Tutu)
*’I’ve just concluded – since President Obama endorses the same-sex marriage, advocates homosexual people and enjoys an attractive countenance – thus if it becomes necessary, I shall travel to Washington, DC, get down on my knee and ask his hand.’
*Never, never, never will we support homosexuality in Zimbabwe.
*This thing [homosexuality] seeks to destroy our lineage by saying John and John should wed, Maria and Maria should wed. Aah, we will never do that.
* Then we have this American president, Obama, born of an African father, who is saying we will not give you aid if you don’t embrace homosexuality.
