By Odebiyi KabidA landlord at Iga Idunganran Street in Idumota,Lagos island area ,Sola Solomon, aged 67 was reported to have set one of his tenants,Abeeb, ablaze on the use of the compound toilet.
The deceased was said to have struggled to put out the flames and landed with a
thud, as the flames ate through his body it was learnt that the landlord was the one who pushed Abbeb down from the top floor of the three storey building .
It was gathered however that the landlord was alleged to have bought the fuel and waited patiently for the victim’s return from were he had gone to watch an European league match between Arsenal and Liverpool football clubs.
One of the tenants revealed that around 12am, the landlord poured the fuel on the passageway of the house and knocked on the door of the victim and in annoyance Abbeb came out of the house to confront the person knocking at the door only to see the Landlord with a container of fuel .
He said, “As he stepped out of the house, then landlord poured the petrol on him. Before Abeeb
could snatch the jerrycan from him, the landlord had ignited fire with a lighter in his hand.
“Abeeb struggled to put out the fire, but the landlord pushed him down from the third floor. He fell to the
ground and died.”-the tenant added.
Another tenant who wants to remain anonymous explained that the disagreement between both the landlord and the deceased had been settled in the evening and she had begged them to make peace reign before the sad incident occurred yesterday.
In addition, she said other tenants in the apartment also complained about the landlord’s bad use of the toilet .
Reports reaching us says policemen from the Adeniji Adele Police Division has removed Abeeb’s corpse from the scene and the landlord who caught fire blisters was taken to the hospital by policemen.
One John Ameh,A resident of the area said the Lagos Island General Hospital rejected the landlord and he was later taken to the Gbagada General Hospital.
Another resident, Habib Suleiman, urged the state government to pursue the case against the suspect to
a logical end and seize the property.
