The website of the National Broadcasting Commission, NBC, shone brightly among that of other federal parastatals when it won three major awards in the 2015 Web-Jurist awards.
These were the Best Web Accessibility Award and the Best Web Aesthetics Award, which then qualified the website to win the Best Overall Website Award.
In a short ceremony in Lagos, on Thursday, night, the Chairman of Phillip Consulting, Nigeria, the initiators of the web-jurist Award project, Mr Foluso Phillips, announced that the objective of the Web-Juristโs Award was to critically and objectively evaluate the effectiveness of websites.
Mr. Phillips said the process of evaluation was a critical analysis of each website, step-by-step using detailed criteria developed specifically for the evaluation of the effectiveness and performance of a website.
Explaining further, an Associate Partner at Phillip Consulting, Mr. Seun Ngonnase, explained that a critical exploration of the websites of Federal Government Parastatals in Nigeria showed that the NBC website had the best accessibility features, such as each of opening and ease of navigation between pages and links, which won it the Best Accessibility trophy.
He added that the clarity of pictures and images, and the suitability and uniformity of fonts used in the website as well as the overall arrangement of the pages gave the NBC website the best outlook among the websites of Federal Government Parastatals.
Presenting the trophies, the Chairman Phillips Consulting, Mr. Foluso Phillips said winning those two major categories also qualified the NBC website to win the best overall website award.
Receiving the trophies, the Director General, National Broadcasting Commission, Mr. Emeka Mba, Thanked the Web-Jurist for the recognitions. He also thanked his team in the Commission, especially the Director Public Affairs, Mr. Awwalu Salihu and the external consultant Mr. John Adebowale, who worked on the website.
He added that it was still a work in progress and promised to maintain the momentum of hard work and as the NBC believes that as it works towards the digital transition, the website should be a little bit more than a window, but a fulcrum of our activities, getting a lot of our job done through the website.
