Facts have emerged why telecommunications giant, MTN dropped music sensation Wizkid as one of its ambassadors for the 2015/ 2016 calendar.
ExpressNG sources said the company adjusted their criteria which pitched Wizkid against Davido.
“When results of empirical market analysis came out, Davido came out top ahead of Wizkid on all fronts. The difference in their rating is wide and it was not hard to reach a conclusion,” an insider told ExpressNG.
Other acts who were dropped include Timaya and Sean Tizzle.
The agency responsible for booking MTN ambassadors is Up Front & Personal owned by showbiz mogul, Paul Okoye.
In a statement signed by MTN’s General Manager, Consumer Marketing, Richard Iweanoge also confirmed that the company used “a segmented approach.”

He explained, ‘As was originally conceptualised, the ambassadorship will continually evolve to accommodate new talents and cater for diverse segments. This year, we are using a segmented approach and there will be ambassadors for each segment of our market. Using this criteria, new artistes like Cobhams Asuquo will be coming on board the MTN Ambassadorial family.’
‘Although there is a finite number of brand ambassadors we can have at any point in time, Nigerian artistes can continue to monetise their intellectual works through our distribution channels such as the Caller Tunez and Music Plus platforms,’ he added.
