EXCLUSIVE: M.I Abaga Takes Next Album To Jay Z’s Tidal – Entertainment Express

Baring any unforeseen changes, Chocolate City Rapper, M.I Abaga may release his next studio album on Jay Z’s Tidal.

But he may not be the first Nigerian to do so; that goes to ex-Storm Records act, Naeto C who released his third album entitled Day 1 on the same platform some weeks ago.

In an exclusive Chat with ExpressNG at Chocolate City corporate head office, he hinted that talks have already begun with Tidal executives. A date has not been fixed for the release of the project, which will be the artiste’s fourth studio album.

M.I Abaga who mounted the saddle as the CEO of Chocolate City in July already has three album’s to his credit namely Talk About It (2008), M.I 2 (2010) and The Chairman (2014).

“I can’t give you a date for the release of the album but I can inform you that I have been speaking with people at Tidal,” he revealed.

On combining his music and record label administration, he said “This is probably my most productive period. I am shooting a lot of videos. I am also making a lot of music. I have seventy songs left over from the Mr Chairman album. I recorded them as an EP but I don’t want to put them out now.”

The Jos, Plateau State raised singer is now responsible for 13 other artistes on the Chocolate City imprimatur including big names such as Ice Prince Zamani, Jesse Jagz, Nosa, Victoria Kimani among others.

Yet it would not only just be about music for M.I Abaga. “I also want to go into clothing and stuffs like that, he revealed adding, “I am willing to go into fashion but you know, you need to be very careful because fashion has its own attitude. In fashion you have to be very careful but there is a serious plan for that. We will get there.”

Acquired in March by American mogul, Jay Z, Tidal now claims to pay the highest percentage of royalties to music artists and songwriters within the music streaming market ahead of fierce rival iTunes.

The subscription-based music streaming service now boasts of 25 million tracks and 75,000 music videos.
