Obafemi Martins said that he is deserving of his recall to the national team but admitted that he was a bit of shock to him, after being a two-year absence from the Eagles.
Obagoal, as he is fondly called by fans was included in the 23 player list called by Sunday Oliseh for the November world cup qualification tie against Swaziland.
“It was a bit of a shock, but a nice shock. I’m very happy, because I have always worked hard, supported and respected all the players picked by the coaches,” Obagoal disclosed.
He was last called up to the Super Eagles in March 2013 for a 2014 World Cup qualifier against Kenya.
Martins have been in fine form for his club, MLS side Seattle Sounders, for the past two season, firing and scoring crucial goals that have led to him being a club favorite and he is determined to make the most of his Super Eagles recall by doing enough to get more call-ups.
“I thank coach Oliseh for this great opportunity. I’m just looking forward to going out there and playing for Nigeria again,” Obagoal said happily.
Should Obafemi Martins score for the Eagles against Swaziland, Nigerians will be treated to a dose of Obagoals famous backflips – which they’ve surely missed for two years now.
