Afrobeat musician, Seun Kuti is mourning the sudden death of legendary.
Papa Wemba, known around the world as the “king of Congolese rumba”, died over the weekend after collapsing on stage during a concert.
The musician fell ill on Saturday while performing at a music festival in Abidjan in Ivory Coast. He was 66.
Baudouin Banza Mukalay, culture minister of the Democratic Republic of Congo, confirmed his death, calling it a “great loss for the country and all of Africa”.
In an instagram, Seun Kuti struggled with words to recall intimate moments with the legendary singer.
He wrote”Papa. Where do I start. How do I explain how good you were to me and my career. How do I explain the generosity you showed me and how u went out of ur way to show me real love. I still remember the beautiful MECCA shirt u gave me the first time we met cos u knew I liked it and was to ‘well brought up’ to ask , as u said. I love u and will miss u always grand master of rhumba rock and a king of African music. RIP PAPA WEMBA
