A yet to be identified policeman assigned to the Orile Police Division has been reportedly killed while chasing a bus driver opposite Fatgbems filling station, along the ever-busy Oshodi-Apapa expressway.
The incident, according to report happened around 9 a.m on Wednesday, August 26.
It was gathered that the bus driver had stopped at an illegal point for people to board, the policeman who was on duty along the road jumped into the commercial bus to arrest the driver but the driver drove as fast as he could to avoid being apprehended.
According to a source, in an attempt to escape from the policeman he collided with another vehicle ahead which made the bus came to a sudden halt and the policeman fell off the bus. It was learnt that another oncoming truck speeding from behind ran over him, killing him right on the spot.
Explaining what transpired, an eyewitness, Rotimi Baki said, “The policeman jumped into the commercial bus while the bus was moving and picking passengers at the bus stop.
“All of a sudden, the commercial bus driver braked and the policeman fell off and a truck coming from behind hit him. The vehicle in front of the commercial bus had stopped. So the bus driver did same.”
The driver and his conductor escaped immediately after the incident.
The corpse of the deceased officer was later evacuated from the scene by officers from the Trinity Police division to Orile Police station before depositing it at the Mainland Hospital Mortuary, Yaba.
Meanwhile, the Lagos State Police Command was yet to react to the development at the time of this report.
