President Barack Obama Has Hired his first Transgender worker, Raffi Freedman-Gurspan to the US White House yesterday.
Raffi has become the first openly transgender woman hired by the White House.
President Obama caused quite a stir in the news, following the announcement.
Raffi Freedman-Gurspan, is a former policy adviser at the National Center for Transgender Equality.
According to reports, she will serve as an outreach and recruitment director in the White House Office of Presidential Personnel.
Speaking on the development, Executive Director of the National Center for Transgender Equality, Mara Keisling, expressed joy about the news, CNN reports.
Keisling said: “President Obama has long said he wants his administration to look like the American people. I have understood this to include transgender Americans…That the first transgender appointee is a transgender woman of color is itself significant. And that the first White House transgender appointee is of a friend is inspiring to me and to countless others who have been touched by Raffi’s advocacy.”
